Dear Tonawanda Community,
I am writing to inform you that, after careful consideration and extensive discussions with our administration, coaches, and safety officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Friday night’s football game at Tonawanda City Schools.
The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We have assessed current conditions and determined that proceeding with the game poses potential risks that we cannot overlook. We came to this decision based on athlete availability to participate in the game due to injuries, eligibility, and the safety concerns for our athletes that recently joined the team. At this time we are not able to field a team to safely participate in our next game scheduled for Friday night.
Additionally, it is crucial for us to focus on the long-term health of our football program, ensuring that we prioritize safety while fostering a positive and supportive environment for our student-athletes. We support our coaching staff and know they are doing everything possibly for the athletes.
We understand that this decision may be disappointing for players, families, and supporters. Please know that this was not made lightly. We are committed to finding solutions that ensure the continued success and safety of our athletic programs moving forward. We appreciate your understanding and support during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely, Jared Northrup
Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Health
