September 2024 Update:
Tonawanda City School District is planning a tax neutral capital improvement project that will focus on the infrastructure and enhancement of the MS/HS building.
This project is driven by the infrastructure needs of our Building Condition Survey, which is a required facilities audit by the NYS Education Department.
Of note for this project:
This capital improvement project is estimated to be $52.7M in cost.
This project will NOT have any additional impact on our taxpayers.
Funding sources will include our NYSED 85% aid rate and our taxpayer-approved capital reserve fund.
A public referendum on this proposed capital project is expected to be held December
17, 2024. A simple majority of voters approving this proposition will pass this project. If
approved by the voters in December, phased work is expected to begin Spring/Summer
of 2026. There will be numerous phases of work in this project that will take place over
three years.
Most of these improvements are required, as per the NYSED Building Condition Survey. These are repairs, improvements, and replacement of infrastructure items that keep us all warm, safe, and dry each day. Significant areas include:

Renovate 6th grade classrooms (replace front slanted windows facing Fletcher Street)
Renovate MS Science classrooms
Renovate HS Special Ed and Life Skills classrooms
Renovate HS Art classrooms
Toilet room/Restroom reconstruction throughout the MS/HS (student and staff)
Auditorium improvements (stage rigging, sound system, ADA stage lift)
New ADA compliant pool locker room and shower stalls
Replace turf athletic field (expired useful life)
Replace track long jump, triple jump, and pole vault event areas
Main Office reconstruction (replace front slanted windows adjacent to the Door 3 entrance)
New exterior signage and lighting around the building
Replacement of deteriorating and failing roof systems
Replace sidewalks, pavement etc. from Hinds Street entrance through center of the campus to the maintenance barn near the back of the stadium.
Other improvements to mechanical equipment, new safe exterior doors, new safe interior doors (classrooms), safe exterior windows, replace emergency generators and fire alarm system including new panels, add safety and exterior lighting, replace air handling units and exhaust fans, etc., are included in this project
